Joseph Altsheler
(1862 - 1919)

Joseph Altsheler was born in 1862 in rural Kentucky. His family couldn't afford to buy him books to read so the families in the area would share the books they had. As an adult he moved to New York City and worked as a magazine writer. When he was unable to find suitable stories for boys, he began writing them himself. Altsheler's books are filled with carefully researched details about the times that the stories took place.

His books became so popular that in 1918 he was voted "The Most Popular Boys' Writer in America."

Unfortunately for the boy's of today Altsheler's works are now out-of-print. But you can still own them!

This CD-ROM contains 13 books from Altsheler's Civil War series in plain text format - you can read these on your computer or print out all or parts of them. You can copy and paste into any word processing document or email and adjust the font and size to whatever is easiest for you to read. (I prefer a larger print myself!) If you download the free program from www.readplease.com your computer can even read them TO YOU!
